the bin of sin

So we still don’t know what’s in the barrel, but whatever it is it stinks! Let’s get strait to it.

Aria tells Ezra that she got into college and that the way she got in was by writing a letter to Jackie painting their relationship as the biggest mistake of her high school career. She is surprised when he reacts positively to the news. He later realizes that some of what she said in the letter held some truth, like that she missed out on high school stuff (A might have been a factor as well) so he decides that maybe for college she should take a break from him. If you love something set it free it if loves you it will come back. Anyway when Aria takes a look at her yearbook she has no activities listed (even though we saw her help with a play and be in a choir) so she might agree with Ezra. Also at some point she gets locked in a freezer but we will discuss that later.

The liar with the least action this episode was Emily. She does save Aria and Spencer from A freezing them and might just be getting a new love interest (which I guessed would happen, see last week’s post) but by far was the least interesting liar this week.

Then there is Spencer. She sees that Mona’s laptop is moving so gets Aria and Emily to follow it. They think that Hanna is stealing the evidence to destroy it. Hannah was going to steal it but was too late and the other liars follow the laptop to an abandoned ice cream factory where A locks Spencer and Aria in a freezer and Emily breaks them out in the nick of time. This reminded me of A locking Caleb in the Kiln two weeks ago. A stop locking people in extreme temperature places its getting old. Spencer and Toby are having some issues, he joined the police force to help the liars but Spencer feels his loyalties are with his job and not her. We don’t see Johnny or whatever the guy’s name is that lives in her barn, this week but my guess is that Toby is out and Johnny is in.

Convinced that she is going to be framed for Mona’s murder, Hannah plans to destroy all the evidence that Spencer and Caleb found in the storage unit last week. She gets Caleb to help her but when they break in everything is gone but the barrel. Before they can take that, Detective Tanner and Officer Toby arrive and call a hazmat team to get the barrel, so we still don’t know what or who is in it. Hannah’s mom splits entirely from Jason both in work and romantically. She is not planning to tell Ted about Jason because she thinks it would hurt him too much. A will use this later, A had video of Hannah and Caleb planning to steal the evidence in Hannah’s kitchen, A quite possibly has video of her mom and Jason. By the end of the episode she makes up her mind and puts on the engagement ring Ted gave her last week (the wedding is scheduled for June 5, inside joke). Personally I think that she should tell Ted, I just know it will come back to bit her in the butt.

·        I love how everyone always has a love interest and is never single for more than a week

·        What happened to Sydney? We haven’t seen her in a while

·        It seems like Rosewood is just protected by Detectives Tanner and Holbrook and Officer Toby, they might want to hire some more police with all the murders and other crime going on

·        I wonder how Ali is doing in jail, has Red accepted her as a member of the family?

·        Will we ever find out what’s in the barrel

Well that’s all I have to say about that

over A barrell

Who is H? Is it just A? Is it Holbrook? I think Holbrook may be dead. What’s in the barrel? Mona? Holbrook? Monkeys? Well let’s get to the recap.

The liars are told of the bloody knife that has been destroyed but most care about other stuff. Aria wants to tell Ezra about the essay that got her into college but can’t find the chance. However A is able to make her essay print out on her receipt. So she goes on a wild goose chase looking for H/Holbrook. She finds nothing but has a nice lunch with Jason.

Pastor Ted is back from Peru and wants to marry Hanna’s mom. This would be perfect but Ashley just slept with Jason. So she is thinking about it. She should come clean and if he still wants to marry her she should do it. Besides that nothing happened to Hannah.

Emily is working hard at Ezra’s cafĂ© and Paige is taking a hiatus from her so she will not be going to Cali for spring break. Emily is butting heads with her coworker all episode but they seem to make emends at the end. I think this will be her new love interest.

While there was not much action for the other three liars, Spencer was action packed. She and Caleb go searching for Mona’s computer when an alert notifies the liars of the location, a storage unit. They break into an adjoining unit and crawl through the air duct. Inside there is enough evidence to convict someone of a murder. There is also a drum; they call it a barrel, that they believe Mona is inside. It was so “Breaking Bad”, the body dissolving in the drum and the yellow hazard suit. Anyway they get out without a trace. In Spencer’s personal life she got into a bunch of colleges that are far away from A but she is upset because she wants to go to an Ivy league school (there are a bunch that are pretty far away from Rosewood, and there are good schools on the west coast like Stanford). Tobey seems to forgive her from last week and they play Scrabble until he gets upset when Caleb informs him about the storage unit. Luckily for Spencer that guy, I think his name is Johnny, has moved into the barn and they seem to have a lot in common and he explains that you don’t need to go to college (if you want to end up living in a barn). So like every other guy who has ever lived in the barn Spencer will be hooking up with him.

I did like that they ended the show with an A closing, I’ve missed them.

Well that is all I have to say about that

fresh meAt

After this episode my main question is “where are the “A”s?” There were a decent amount of A action, the teddy bear for Hanna, the bookmark for Aria, Caleb in the kiln, but not a single glimpse of A or a black hooded sweatshirt. Even when A sends a note to Ali at the end of the episode it’s not signed. Is A gone (in jail, or dead) or everyone already knows it’s A so there is no need to identify him/herself.

Let’s start with Aria, she still has not gotten into any college and is freaking out. I would think that since her dad is a professor he might have some pull or contacts that could help her but I guess we are to believe that A is more powerful than that, plus we have not seen him in quite a while. Her one hope is that she is waitlisted at one school but finds out that Ezra’s ex is on admissions there so her chances of getting it are slim to none. She decides to write a letter anyway and writes about how her relationship with Ezra wrecked her life. She drives to the school to withdraw the letter but it’s too late, plus it gets her accepted. She hasn’t told Ezra yet but A already is using this info to toy with Aria.

While Aria is having trouble getting into college Hanna is not, she got accepted to every school. She plays the ditz but is the smartest of all the Liars. So she goes to visit yet another college, she hates it and finds out about the knife found in Mona’s back yard so leaves. She goes to Holbrooke’s dads trailer looking for him but he’s not there (he should be there because he took time off to take care of his dad, maybe he has two dad’s and is taking care of the other one). Anyway it’s really creepy there and someone, probably A stuffs her teddy bear with organ meat. When she gets home she catches Jason sneaking out after a night with her mom. They have been working together and one thing led to another. I wonder if Ashley is going to stay or will still be looking for another job.

Spencer and Caleb are informed by Toby that he found his family’s bloody knife in Mona’s back yard but froze up and just left it there. Toby wants to do the right thing and give it to the cops but Spencer and Caleb want to destroy it. They agree to just leave it there but Caleb and Spencer go back and get it. They destroy it in the school’s kiln (I know those things get supper hot but considering all the pottery was on wire racks a doubt it would melt the blade or burn up the handle). Caleb gets locked in it but is saved by Spencer in the nick of time. Toby also goes back to get the knife and when it’s not there is upset with Spencer. Also while at Ezra launch party Spencer meets the dude that will be renting the barn. Considering that things are not going well with Toby and that she has made out with every guy who has ever stayed in the barn I think she will have a thing with this new guy.

Emily is having trouble with the long distance relationship with Paige. Since Paige is not responding to her emails Emily desperately wants to fly out there for spring break. The only problem is that she needs money to do that, too bad she did not go to AC she could have won it there. Instead she tries to make the money by catering Ezra’s shindig. This goes horribly wrong but Ezra gets Talia to help out and it’s a success. Besides that there is no point of her even being in this episode.

Ali is still in jail. The Liars won’t talk to her. She does see Toby and Hanna comes to yell at her. Her own brother won’t even take her calls. But she gets a note that her friends will be joining her soon.

Side notes

·        I liked how they switched up couples this week (Spencer/Caleb, Emily/Ezra)

·        I feel like the knife will be coming back

·        With email, texting, twitter, Skype, Facebook… how are Paige and Emily having such issues so quickly?

·        What happened to the A endings of the show? This is the second week where we did not get to finish off the episode with A doing something menacing.

Well that is all I have to say about that

through A glass, darkly

It’s back! So let’s get right to it.

The episode starts with “the slap heard around the world” but Ali did deserve it. To have the chutzpa to show up at the funeral of the girl most people believe you killed, I bet A made her do it. Well the liars believe that Ali is A and find video of the murder and get Jason to change his story so Ali is in jail by the end of the episode. I hope there is an OITNB crossover that would be awesome!

Hanna brings in the Grunwald to try and find Mona’s body. All it does is freak her out a bit and make the petals fall off some flowers. We still have no idea where Mona is. Besides that Hanna doesn’t really do anything this episode beside have a flashback and inform Mona’s mom that there is a camera in the vent. I think Aria even spent more time with Caleb this episode.

Aria did not get into Oberlin; at least one of the Liars has applied to college. She believes that A may have sabotaged her acceptance so she asks Caleb to hack in to find out. He decides instead to teach her how to hack and we never find out if she was rejected because of A or on her own merit. Ezra is turning the Brew into a bookstore and gets Mike to help out so he could pester him about Mona, in the end Aria gets him open up and cry off screen. She also gets attacked by A and has the Mona’s laptop stolen.

Spencer is out on bail but Bethany’s parents want to revoke it. We find out the evidence that got her arrested was a hidden statement from Ali’s mom that just resurfaced. Detective Tanner and Officer Toby believe it was a cover-up linked to Radley. Spencer afraid that she will go to jail has Emily help her, first they look for evidence at Ali’s house, when they find nothing they then decide to plant some at Mona’s house but that’s when they find the camera in the vent. With the new video of Mona’s murder Ali is arrested and the charges against Spencer are dropped.

Besides helping her friends Emily is dealing with the Paige moving to California. They try every excuse but Paige’s parents (who we never have seen, see, or will see) don’t care, she has enough credits and they want her safe. They do get one of those romantic airport goodbyes thanks to a $69 ticket to AC (lucky they both departed from the same terminal). I hope that they are able to have a long distance relationship, it is easier these days with the interweb, and maybe next year they will go to the same college or at least colleges close to each other.

Once Ali is arrested the Liars feel safe and start planning their future without A since they believe that she is now behind bars. We knew this was not the case since there are so many more episodes left. The Liars find that out when the fireworks display make a huge red A in the sky and then fireworks rain down on them. I might be reading too much into that but it reminded me of the “Jena thing”.

Side thoughts

Ravenswood was canceled stop trying to bring it back.

I thought she was called the “Griswold” as if she was related to the family from the “vacation” movies

AC is pretty bad if you can’t gamble
I guess they can only have one detective at a time Holbrooke or Tanner but not both

Well that is all I have to say about that
